Manager Production & Logistics - Fremont Facility

SUMMARY

Manages and oversees all processes in production and logistics and is responsible for all production engineering activities. Responsible for the work force utilization, efficient workflows, floor layout, establishing quality initiatives and realizing the production forecast. Supervises all production engineering activities and guides schedules and resources.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Production & Logistics:

  • Establishing / maintaining quality and efficiency policies and control their implementation
  • Execution of the production forecast and on time delivery
  • Resource allocation and management
  • Monitors operations for efficiency and safety, ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are met/followed
  • Maintaining technological knowhow through cross training and proper documentation
  • Supervision of purchasing, production control and warehouse activities
  • Establishing guidelines for production control and warehouse processes
  • Establishing guidelines and policies for purchasing, e.g. second sourcing, outsourcing, vendor relation, and is involved in finding key vendors, participates in technical discussions
  • Guarantees for cost efficient vendor base and ensure quality of them
  • Ensures manufacturing performance and quality goals are met  

Engineering:

  • Ensure adequate production support with engineering force
  • Establish item master policies and guidelines for naming and numbering of parts and products
  • Establish/maintain robust engineering change processes in coordination with R&D
  • Assists R&D in production friendly designs, new and possible manufacturing technologies and key vendors

Other essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Sets guidelines and goals for Production, Logistics and Engineering
  • Trains, evaluates and reviews employees and develops them for operation efficiency
  • Creates awareness of company policies, quality and delivery commitments
  • Establish and maintain efficient relations to key personnel of other Bruker Daltonics factories
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, communication and listening skills  

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

The Operations Manager will supervise a team of managers. In the capacity as manager, responsibilities will include performance evaluation, compensation administration, and employee development (with assistance from human resources function)  

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree
  • At least 10 years of experience in manufacturing management in scientific instrumentation or closely related industry  
  • Experience with the management of oversight of operations, including planning, production control, inventory and materials management and customer support

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with electrical design, mechanical design, quality control and other engineering-related applications
  • Manufacturing applications, including production planning, materials requirements planning, plant scheduling, with specific knowledge of SAP preferred    

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Demonstrated accomplishment with manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures, including materials requirements planning (MRP), new product introduction (NPI), new product certification, contract manufacturing
  • Demonstrated accomplishment with facilities planning, maintenance and management
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical engineering concepts and practices
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Experience in Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing is a plus
